    Neste artigo sugere-se a complexidade que exige a análise da memória nacional palestina depois de ser interceptada por duas formas de colonialismo ocidental; a do Mandado Britânico no início do século XX e a ocupação israelense que iniciou em 1948. Com a modernidade ocidental colonial chegaram também as instâncias de referência por excelência para comemorar a memória nacional, em que o palestino não teve lugar até 1976, com a aparição de sete monumentos analisados. A segunda parte aborda uma mudança radical, quando, depois da Intifada de 2000 multiplicou-se a construção de monumentos comemorativos palestinos, que foram localizados em espaços mais visíveis. A supervivência de apenas um desses monumentos expõe a dificuldade do povo palestino que ficou dentro do Estado de Israel para congregar seus pontos de luto coletivo, assim como sua reivindicação pública, ensinando a anulação identitária e política à que é submetido.
