Although in the 1990s, debates about cultural studies in the Latin American context gravitated around how they involved the articulation of a series of interdisciplinary research practices in the social sciences and humanities (product of a reorganization of the left in the era after the collapse of communism), recent years have seen a panorama marked by the rapid conquest of institutional spaces in this field. The Symposium on Cultural Studies in the Americas: Commitment, Collaboration, Transformation, whose memories are presented in the following pages, was the product of an inter-institutional and interpersonal collaboration that, despite its failures (technical, logistic, strategic, etc.), can be contemplated as a model of cooperation for the field of cultural studies in the region.
