        Listeria spp. es un género bacteriano que se adapta fácilmente a cambios ambientales y a condiciones químicas y físicas, por eso no es sorprendente la aparición de resistencia a desinfectantes de uso frecuente en las industrias de alimentos. La capacidad para adquirir genes de resistencia antimicrobiana a partir de otras especies bacterianas, hace que este género deba ser observado cuidadosamente desde el punto de vista epidemiológico.

         

        Aunque aún no se ha demostrado que el abuso de antimicrobianos como promotores de crecimiento en la producción de animales (vacas, cerdos y aves, entre otros), esté relacionado directamente con el aumento de la resistencia antimicrobiana, es inevitable llamar la atención sobre esta práctica. En este artículo se hace una revisión sobre la taxonomía, el serotipo, factores de virulencia, el uso de antibióticos en la industria y la resistencia antimicrobiana de Listeria spp.
